CURRENT OPENINGS

Physical Education (PE) Teacher (Part-time)

Position Concept:

The teacher will provide Physical Education instruction to students in Early Childhood 3 classes through grade 6, with the goal of supporting students’ gross motor development, physical fitness, coordination, and teamwork in a Montessori-aligned environment. The teacher will create and lead engaging PE lessons that promote movement, healthy habits, and social-emotional learning through cooperative games, physical challenges, and foundational sports skills.

Accountable to: Assistant Head of School
Position status: Part-time

Key Responsibilities:

● Plan and deliver age-appropriate PE lessons for students aged 3 to 12 that foster a lifelong appreciation for physical activity and wellness.

● Create a supportive, inclusive, and positive environment where students feel confident participating, trying new skills, and collaborating with peers.

● Introduce a variety of activities such as basic movement patterns, fitness routines, cooperative games, team sports, and mindfulness exercises.

● Reinforce social-emotional skills through physical activities, including self-regulation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and teamwork.

● Monitor student progress, provide individualized feedback, and encourage personal growth and goal setting.

● Collaborate effectively with Montessori educators and staff to integrate physical education into the overall school experience.

● Create long- and short-range lesson plans appropriate to each developmental level.

● Implement the curriculum through small-group instruction and outdoor play whenever possible.

● Coordinate with other specials teachers and classroom guides to support student transitions and interdisciplinary learning.

● Prepare twice-yearly evaluations of student progress toward proficiency, including anecdotal observations and feedback in collaboration with the specials team.

● Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, in-service trainings, and school-wide events and activities.

● Exemplify Montessori values in interactions with students, parents, and staff; follow the Peace and Reconciliation Policy when addressing student challenges.

● Maintain a positive, professional attitude when engaging with the broader school community, while respecting the confidentiality of students and families.

Qualifications for the Position:

● Strong knowledge of physical education, motor development, and child fitness fundamentals
● Teaching experience and undergraduate degree desirable
● Passion for physical education and child development
● Teaching philosophy compatible with the Montessori Method
● Ability to create inclusive activities for all levels and abilities
● Belief that movement is a powerful vehicle for learning, confidence, and joy

Hours & Schedule:

  • On-site 4 days per week (ideally Monday through Thursday, though flexible for the right fit)

Art Teacher(Part-time)

Position Concept:

The teacher will provide Art instruction to students in Early Childhood 3 classes through grade 6, with the goal to deliver Art lessons to students of various ages and skill levels. The teacher will work to  foster creativity, artistic expression, and appreciation for various art forms within the Montessori framework. We also ask that the teacher lead a positive and engaging learning environment.  

Accountable to:  Assistant Head of School

Position status: Part-time 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and deliver engaging art lessons that align with Montessori principles and cater to the developmental needs of students aged 5-12.

  • Introduce students to a variety of art techniques, mediums, and styles, encouraging exploration and experimentation.

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes creativity, self-expression, and respect for individual artistic abilities.

  • Incorporate elements of art history, culture, and diverse perspectives into lessons to enrich students' understanding and appreciation of art.

  • Assess and provide constructive feedback on students' artwork, encouraging growth and development of their artistic skills.

  • Collaborate effectively with Montessori educators and staff to integrate art education with other subjects and enrich the overall Montessori curriculum.

  • Create long- and short-range lessons plans for all levels appropriate to their developmental needs and abilities

  • Implement the curriculum through small-group instruction

  • Plan and coordinate with other Specials teachers and grade-level teachers

  • Prepare twice-yearly student evaluations of student progress towards proficiency on a learning continuum, including anecdotal observations with other specials teachers

  • Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, teacher in-services and school-wide  events and activities

  • Exemplify Montessori ideals in her/his interactions with students, parents, and CVMS staff members.  S/he will follow the Peace and Reconciliation Policy in dealing with student misbehavior.  S/he will direct questions and concerns first to the classroom teacher, following the Communication Checklist.

  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude about the school when interacting with the community at large, respecting the privacy of students and families.

Classroom Assistant

Position Concept:

The Classroom Assistant’s job is to support the Lead Teacher, and ensure the safety and well-being of the students. S/he should promote Montessori ideals in her interactions with students, families and staff, and serve as a positive role model.

Position status: Full or Part time

Hours: As stated in the letter of intent/contract

Key Responsibilities:

The children are the first priority. The assistant will fulfill the daily requests of the classroom teacher, which may include: working with specific children individually or in groups, performing administrative tasks, taking attendance, making materials/snack, escorting children out of the classroom, supervising snack, supervising the playground and gym during recess and work on assigned projects and check student work when not needed by the children.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • S/he will keep the classroom (and playground) clean, including areas that the children miss in their weekly cleaning, and tidy the shelves and room every afternoon after school. S/he will replace supplies as needed.

  • S/he will arrive promptly and be present during the hours called for in her/his contract. S/he will contact the classroom teacher, as well as administrative assistant, as soon as possible for planned or unexpected absences.

  • S/he will limit personal phone calls and texts to family emergencies during classroom hours. S/he will use designated breaks for personal communication.

  • S/he will be in charge of creating weekly or daily lessons/ activities.

  • S/he will be in charge of preparing snack on a daily basis.

  • S/he will maintain oversight of the classroom and engage or redirect children when needed so that the teacher is free to continue her/his lessons.

  • S/he will keep her/his tone, words, and attitude positive. S/he will follow the Peace and Reconciliation Policy in dealing with student misbehavior.

  • S/he will take opportunities to familiarize her/himself with the Montessori philosophy and teaching methods, in daily interactions with the classroom teacher and during staff in-services.

  • S/he will maintain a positive, professional attitude about the school when interacting with the community at large, respecting the privacy of students and families. S/he will direct questions and concerns first to the classroom teacher, following the Communications Checklist.

Education and Experience

  • BS/BA degree preferred but not required

  • Previous experience working in a school/daycare setting, preferably a Montessori school

Custodian (Part-time)

Custodian Role and Responsibilities:

Custodians maintain a clean school environment and perform building maintenance and repairs as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintains the cleanliness of the building throughout the school day

  • Restocks paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and classroom cleaning supplies as needed

  • Orders and maintains the janitorial and cleaning supplies

  • Identifies and addresses maintenance concerns

  • Maintains daily work log and submits to Business Manager and HOS

  • Performs basic janitorial and maintenance tasks as requested by the classroom teachers and administration

  • Maintains the grounds of the building (removing snow from sidewalks and walkways, etc.)

  • Coordinates external building maintenance and repair services as needed with approval from the Business Manager

  • Assists with morning and afternoon drop off and pick up

  • Provides occupants with updates of electrical, water and other service outages and scheduled shutdowns

  • Requests special janitorial services as needed

  • Assists with setup and teardown for school events

  • During evacuations, assists emergency response teams in assessing building condition, locating missing personnel, and shutting off utilities

Requirements include:

  • Driver’s License

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Comfortable working with and around children

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work

  • Previous janitorial and/or commercial building maintenance experience preferred

Substitute Teachers are a vital piece to providing the high standard of care we provide our community with. Substitutes,don't just provide sick day coverage, they provide classroom coverage so our skilled faculty can meet with families, attend conferences, complete additional trainings, attend school related meetings, and so much more.

Substitute positions may be in one of the following classrooms/programs: Toddler, Early Childhood(ages 3-5), Lower Elementary (grades 1-3) Upper Elementary (grads 4-6), and after-school program which is for students ages 3- 6th grade and goes until 5:30pm.
