Academic Support Coordinator

Position Concept: Chemung Valley Montessori is looking to hire a compassionate individual to provide academic support to students with disabilities or other special academic needs. At CVMS our goal is to embrace the Montessori philosophy, while nurturing each child’s individual potential, passion for lifelong learning, and sense of world community. School Position status: Full Time, Part Time

Key Responsibilities:
● Presenting programs to students about study skills or time management techniques.
● Identifying students who may need additional support to succeed in school.
● Coordinating lesson services with teachers and other staff members.
● Providing academic counseling to students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
● Communicating with the local school district with information regarding IEP’s etcetera.
● Developing and implementing academic support programs and services for students who are struggling in specific subjects or who need additional support to stay on track academically.

● Administering tests to assess student progress and diagnose learning disabilities, or being the liaison with the school district to have students evaluated.

● Providing one-on-one lessons to students in subjects such as math, reading, and additional needs of our teachers.

● Assisting students with disabilities or special needs in order to ensure that they have equal access to education.

● Academic support team will perform reading and math assessments of all students twice a school year (once in September and the other in May/June).

● Familiarity with IEP process and reporting
● Manage legal documents and files related to students’ IEP’s and 504 plans, liaise with external service providers, ensure all services are following mandates, and coordinate annual IEP review process

Qualifications:

● A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree is preferred in special education
● Two years of teaching experience in a special education setting with a record of high student achievement
● Familiarity with IEP process and reporting
● An ability to meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed
● Commitment and belief in CVMS’ mission and the Montessori methods
● Personal qualities of maturity, humility, self-reflection, strong work ethic, and “whatever it takes” attitude

● Ability to take feedback well and implement changes immediately
● Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Lead Toddler Teacher Job Description

Position status: Part-time

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 12:00pm

Purpose: The teacher will provide Montessori-based instruction and care for students ages 21 months through 42 months.

Qualifications for the Position:

  • Experience working with young toddlers

  • Ideally the candidate will have a BA degree

  • Teaching philosophy compatible with Montessori Method

  • Passion for young toddlers and teaching to their strengths

  • Belief that learning is a natural progression of interest and discover

Key Responsibilities:

  • Before class begins:

  • Empty dishwasher, put away clean dishes

  • Set up tables and chairs, disinfect

  • Straighten work shelves, set up materials if needed

  • During class:

  • Toileting and diapering (children are encouraged and supported to manipulate their own clothing, sit on the toilet as long as needed, wash hands, etc. We do not lay the children down--we change their diapers in a standing position, and ask them to touch their toes when needing a wipe.)

  • Setting up and preparing snacks (working with children to wash/cut/serve their own snacks and pour their own water to drink, assist them with cleaning up when done)

  • General classroom management (offering comfort to an upset child, guiding conflict resolution, directing children as needed, etc.)

  • Aiding students with changing shoes and coats before and after outdoor play

  • Guiding students to keep the room tidy (return works to shelves, sweep, wipe up spills, etc.)

  • After class ends:

  • Wipe down tables and chairs with disinfectant

  • Load dishwasher

  • Sweep the floor

  • Straighten work shelves

  • Replace materials as needed (art paper, water, play dough, etc.)

  • Fill out any incident reports, copy, and file

  • Miscellaneous tasks, including:

  • Parent communications (typically via school communications app)

  • Record keeping (photos of children and anecdotal notes)

  • Organizing

  • Copying

  • Laminating

  • Setting up students’ cubbies

  • Filing

  • Classroom set-up (decorating, cleaning, organizing, etc.)

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week
